Matt's vocals have grown into an assured, controlled and versatile first tenor with the smoothness of a matinee crooner and the gravitas of a dramatic leading man. He has the range to portray eccentric character roles as well as the stamina and repertoire to master demanding protagonist vocals.
Matt gained distinction in practical Musical Theatre studies whilst studying under renowned director Nick Whitehouse at Tyne Theatre NCPA where he took on coveted roles such as Sheriff Ed Earl Dodd in "Best Little Whore House in Texas" and Jesus in "Godspell". The latter saw him invited to perform in the West End (by Howard Goddall himself!) as a lead vocalist in "An Evening With Howard Goodall" alongside other emerging talent such as Sheridan Smith at The Britten Theatre, London performing a range of Howard's acclaimed musical works to a star studded audience.
"You were absolutely GREAT!" - Lenny Henry
After graduating with a 2:1 degree in Performance Arts from UOS Matt moved straight into his professional career after securing work from his FIRST audition. He was able to stretch his vocals and learn & train alongside established actors and vocalists when he was given the lead role, Tony, "The Boyfriend", a classic tale of love and loss with an equally demanding vocal requirement.
Due to his tall, dark and handsome looks (early in his career!) Matt was regularly cast as the "hero" in Christmas spectacular shows the length of the country including Gravesend, Sunderland, Billingham, Newcastle and St Albans where his vocals would woo the audience as the " . . . perfect foil to the madness and mayhem of the comedy
performers . . ." which gave him critical acclaim and many return offers.
Matt caught the attention of NE rock Band "Last Anthem," a notorious and raucous outfit renowned throughout the North East for their high energy, supreme musicality and their sell out shows. Matt took on the demanding job of lead vocalist and spent 4 years sharing the stage with the 5 piece gracing theatres, festivals, private events and even supporting "Calvin Harris" on the North East leg of his tour to the Stockton Riverside Festival. Matt was quoted as having the "Range of Freddie, the energy of a puppy and the control of a choir boy". The less said about that the better!
After an amicable separation from the band, Matt was enticed back to lead vocals once more as part of "The Haloz", live 80s Rock Show. The pace and schedule of this crazy group survived for 3 years before the group took a break. Matt's reviews included "The best vocalist we have had here in years," to "Matt was made to sing rock. his range is astounding".
Matt was always happiest front and centre with a mic in his hand sharing his love and passion for music with an appreciative audience. Full House Productions cast him in their multi award winning stage musical "Forever In Blue Jeans" where he returned for 6 tours across 2 years as he adored it so much. Night after night Matt shared the stage with award winning vocalists such as Carole Gordon, Louise Warren and comic legends John Clegg and Slim Pickens. Matt divided his role between playing bass and guitar with the band for the other vocalists and taking centre stage himself to play "Garth Brooks" and other well known music icons.
